Mumbai (Marathi: मुंबई Mumbaī), formerly known as Bombay, is the capital of the Indian state of Maharashtra. With an estimated population of about 13 million, it is the largest metropolis in India and one of the world's most populous cities within administrative limits. With the population of 19 million, Mumbai Metropolitan Area is also world's 5th most populated. Located off the west coast of India, the city has a deep natural harbour. Mumbai handles over half of India's passenger traffic and a significant amount of cargo.
